French

At Blackminster we want students to see language learning as a way of developing their communication skills,
thinking skills and problem solving skills as they learn to understand the structure of language
and how language works.

Students are encouraged, through the resources we use and topics covered, to appreciate the culture
diversity of the countries where French is spoken.

In Year 6 students are taught in mixed ability groups and then in Year 7 and Year 8 they work in set groups.
Various techniques are used to make lessons lively and engaging including new technology,
drama, and creative tasks, whilst underpinning lessons with coverage of key grammar points.

Although the main language is French there is a opportunity for pupils to attend an Italian club at lunchtimes.

In Year 8 there is a residential trip to Hardelot on the French Opal Coast.
